Sally’s story on #WorldCancerDay
4 February 2022
Sally lives in Kenya and went through multiple cancers. She shares her story on the occasion of World Cancer Day. There are many Sallys around the world. Unfortunately, access to cancer diagnosis, care and treatment remains a challenge for many. 70% of death from cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries. One reason for this is the lack of access to affordable treatments and health products. This is particularly true for new therapies that may provide better chances of survival and living a healthy and fulfilling life. The Medicines Patent Pool is leveraging its experience in voluntary licensing of optimal treatments for HIV and viral hepatitis to also expand access to medicines for non-communicable diseases of key public health importance, including cancers. Because everyone, everywhere has a right to health.
