Geneva — The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is delighted to announce the appointment of two distinguished new members to our Governance Board. We warmly welcome Maureen Luba as our new Board member, representing Communities, and Grégory Bonnaud as our new Treasurer of the MPP Governance Board.
Maureen Luba has an extensive public health and community engagement background, currently serving as the Senior Advisor of global policy at AVAC. Over the last 14 years, she has been integral in bridging the gap between global health institutions, researchers, funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders, focusing on enhancing community engagement and shaping health policy. Maureen is actively involved in several advisory roles, including the IAS HIV Vaccine Industry Partnership and the BRILLIANT Consortium, which supports HIV vaccine research in Africa. Her leadership is further demonstrated through her membership in the African Women Prevention Community Accountability Board and her previous role on the International Partnership for Microbicides board. A former AVAC Advocacy Fellow and Global Change Leadership Fellow, Maureen holds a Bachelor’s in Public Administration from the University of Malawi and a Master’s in Global Health Delivery from Harvard Medical School.
Grégory Bonnaud is a Swiss Certified Public Accountant with over seventeen years of experience in finance and treasury management. He currently holds the position of Chief Financial Officer at Medicines for Malaria (MMV), where he oversees the Finance and IT departments. His responsibilities include ensuring the integrity of accounting, internal controls, and audit processes to protect the organization’s reputation. Previously, Grégory was an Audit Manager at KPMG SA in Geneva, managing financial audits across various sectors, including shipping, trading, NGOs, and luxury goods. His academic qualifications are robust, featuring a Masters in Audit and Controlling from I.A.E Lyon and a Master’s degree in Financial Management from University Clermont 1.

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed public health organisation working to increase access to and facilitate the development of life-saving medicines for low- and middle-income countries. Through its innovative business model, MPP partners with civil society, governments, international organisations, industry, patient groups, and other stakeholders to prioritise and license needed medicines and pool intellectual property to encourage generic manufacture and the development of new formulations.
To date, MPP has signed agreements with 22 patent holders for 13 HIV antiretrovirals, one HIV technology platform, three hepatitis C direct-acting antivirals, a tuberculosis treatment, a cancer treatment, four long-acting technologies, a post-partum haemorrhage medicine, three oral antiviral treatments for COVID-19 and 16 COVID-19 technologies.
MPP was founded by Unitaid, which continues to be MPP’s main funder. MPP’s work on access to essential medicines is also funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Government of Canada, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Government of Flanders. MPP’s activities in COVID-19 are undertaken with the financial support of the Japanese Government, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the German Agency for International Cooperation, and SDC.
