About MPP

The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed public health organization that improves access to affordable, quality-assured medicines and health technologies in low- and middle-income countries through voluntary licensing and technology transfer. Initially focused on HIV, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis, MPP has expanded its mandate to include essential medicines, COVID-19 therapeutics, vaccines, and pandemic preparedness, helping accelerate equitable access to innovative healthcare worldwide.

 About the role

MPP has established voluntary licensing agreements for multiple innovative medicines, enabling generic manufacturers worldwide to develop affordable generic products, including novel formulations and fixed-dose combinations. Its portfolio now includes over 100 pharmaceutical development projects.

MPP’s Alliance Management (AM) team, within its broader Business Development (BD) team manages relationships with generic pharmaceutical partners and oversees the implementation and performance of licensed products. The daily work of the AM team combines managing relationships with generic partners, tracking projects progress, collecting, analysing, interpreting and communicating product data; mainly during quarterly review meetings (QRMs). The AM team is also responsible for monitoring licence compliance. The data collected by the AM team is used for assessing MPP impact and for reporting to the funders.

The role of Senior Associate, Alliance Management requires someone who can move comfortably between detailed datasets and external partner conversations: identifying inconsistencies or trends in data, understanding their business significance, asking the right follow-up questions of manufacturers, and translating information into clear insights for MPP colleagues, licensors, donors and other stakeholders.

The position reports to the Head of India Office and Alliance Management and works closely with Business Development, Legal, Policy, Technology Transfer, Operations and Communications.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and actively participate in Quarterly Review Meetings (QRMs) with generic manufacturers, including:
    • Scheduling QRM sessions with the manufacturers
    • Preparing QRM agendas, analytical materials, dashboards and presentations
    • Documenting decisions and agreed actions, and systematically track their completion.
    • Supporting preparation of key documentation for product development, regulatory filings, and in-country sales data for licensees
    • Supporting manufacturing countries export data review and analysis, ensuring quality and identifying matters for further examination by the BD Team
    • Following up proactively with manufacturers between QRMs on outstanding data, milestones, issues and commitments

    • Supporting preparation of master files for product development, regulatory submissions and in-country sales data.
  • Support AM team with the following activities:
    • Monitoring and updating licensee tracker reflecting any changes that should be communicated across MPP records and publicly available information.
    • Updating MPP introductory presentation for website on a semi-annual basis
    • Preparing alliance management relevant information for donor reports and other publications.
    • Maintaining Key Performance Indicators information for the Alliance Management team.
    • Creating and periodically updating a structured database of existing and prospective generic manufacturers
    • Providing relevant, up to date alliance management information to colleagues across other functions and departments.
  • Participate in external meetings relevant to responsibilities of the role and the AM team
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as may be reasonably required to ensure smooth functioning of the AM team, and as assigned by the Head of India Office and/or Head of Alliance Management and/or Director of Business Development.

Requirements

Essential

  • Master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, economics, business analytics, data sciences or a related discipline. A bachelor’s degree may be considered with substantial relevant experience.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry, business analytics, business development, alliance management, project management or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large or complex datasets and converting data into meaningful business insights
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, data mining and data analysis skills,and the ability to identify patterns, synthesise information and generate new understanding from diverse, nontraditional data sources.
  • Strong knowledge of PowerPoint
  • Strong stakeholder-management and customer-service orientation, with the ability to establish productive relationships with external business partners
  • Strong project-management and follow-up skills, with the ability to manage multiple partners, datasets, deadlines and action items simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data quality.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Proven project management abilities with excellent time management, organisation and coordination capabilities.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of data tools (SQL Python, GitLab etc.)
  • Experience working with Power BI or another data-visualisation platform
  • Familiarity with voluntary licensing, access-to-medicines programmes, global health or pharmaceutical licensing would be an advantage.
