The Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) is a United Nations-backed public health organisation working to increase access to, and facilitate the development of, life-saving medicines for low- and middle-income countries.

Through its innovative business model, MPP partners with civil society, governments, international organisations, industry, patient groups and other stakeholders, to prioritise and license needed medicines and pool intellectual property to encourage generic manufacture and the development of new formulations.

To date, MPP has signed agreements with eleven patent holders for thirteen HIV antiretrovirals, one HIV technology platform, three hepatitis C direct-acting antivirals, a tuberculosis treatment, a long-acting technology and two experimental oral antiviral treatments for COVID-19. In 2020, MPP’s mandate was temporarily expanded to include COVID-19 treatments. In 2021 it was expanded further to include the licensing of technology with an initial focus on COVID-19 vaccines and pandemic preparedness.

MPP was founded by Unitaid, which continues to be MPP’s main funder. MPP’s work on access to essential medicines is also funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). MPP’s activities in COVID-19 are undertaken with the financial support of the Japanese Government and SDC.


The Finance and Administration Officer supports the Finance and Human Resources team in the smooth running of the organisation.

Main Duties

MPP accounting is maintained in-house for the Head Office in Geneva and by a finance services provider in India, and within this framework, the main responsibilities are:

Finance and Accounting:

  • Receiving and checking the incoming invoices for Geneva and India offices;
  • Preparing the bi-monthly payments for approval and sending the information to the Finance services provider in India;
  • Following up with the Indian Finance services provider with the monthly bookkeeping and payments;
  • Performing monthly closing of books: prepaid allocations, reconciliation of accounts, check of analytical allocations, integration of the Indian accounting;
  • Supporting the Finance and Administration Manager (FAM) in the annual closing of the books and during the audits (both Swiss and Indian audits);
  • Supporting the FAM in the ERP analytical set up;
  • Supporting the FAM in the design and the maintenance of an effective Internal Control System and its application;
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the FAM.

Administration (Human Resources):

  • Registering employees to social insurances and being point of contact for these administrative matters.
  • Preparing and following consultants’ contracts.
  • Maintaining the employees’ records files.
  • Assisting the Head of HR in the preparation of monthly payrolls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of HR depending on the appetence for HR matters.


The Finance and Administration Officer should have:

  • A track record of bookkeeping.
  • Good knowledge of Swiss Gaap FER.
  • Good knowledge of the Swiss social insurance framework.
  • Experience with Payroll a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel and in working with an ERP (Microsoft dynamics BC a strong asset).

Education and special training

  • A recognised Swiss accounting degree.


  • Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in Switzerland.
  • Experience working in a non-for-profit organisation a strong asset.

Use of Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Fluency in French a strong asset.
